It still Rattles and Hums

rattle and Hum Album SleeveIt’s some time time since I listened to the U2 album Rattle and Hum. They were on fire  – Unforgettable. I have this album on Vinyl and at sometime I had transferred it onto cassette and later minidisc. I was in the process of transferring it again this time onto my hard drive. It’s a process I can only describe as tedious, so I looked on iTunes to see what price it was. Just £5.49 – so I bought it. So now it’s on my iPhone.

Pride still brings tears to my eyes and I still haven’t found what I’m looking for with the gospel choir is spine chilling.

Perhaps I like this album because it touches the gospel roots planted in me as a boy.

Free Music Downloads

Free Music Downloads – Music Promotion – We7

We7 logoYou can download free mp3 files of hundreds of commercially available tracks from this site. Each track starts with a short advert and the “artwork” that appears in iTunes is linked to the advert and not the album.

It’s dead easy to edit off the advert using Audacity,  Amadeus Pro or other audio editing software that will save mp3 files. The art work can be replaced in iTunes too by grabbing the thumbnail from Amazon.

The sample rate is 192kbps so they’re good quality too. So if you want a tune check this site first before buying it from anywhere else.

Free Britannica

In an obvious challenge to Wikipedia, Encyclopedia Britannica is offering free subscriptions to bona fide publishers and bloggers. So I applied and was approved. Hence I can offer you all sorts of factual accuracies alongside my much opinionated scribblings.

What’s more if you, my dear reader, click on one of the links I post to the learned tome, you too can read the whole Britannica article for nothing. So take a look at this widget and click for more ….

I have owned the many volumes of Encyclopedia Britannica since 1986 and collected every year book until last year when it seemed that the internet has superceded the hard bound volumes on the shelf.

A brief look at the online version reveals a much slicker delivery compared to the free Wiki entries. So if you love bells and whistles, Java and Flash, authority and formality  – you’ll love EB. But if you prefer the more geeky and folksy Wikipedia – well it’s still there and will remain forever free.

The 10 deadly evils of life in Britain today

The 10 deadly evils of life in Britain today | Society | The Observer

‘The focus on greed as an issue reflects concern about the growing gulf between the rich and poor. Connected to all of these issues was the perception that we no longer share a set of common values and that we have lost our “moral compass”.’

As I wrote previously Joseph Rowntree’s legacy is still contributing valuable stuff to our national conscience.
