My young grandson has gone home with him mum and dad today. He is such an inquisitive boy – there’s something he wants to explore at every turn. I felt it my grandfatherly duty to introduce him to the National Railway Museum whilst he was here in York.
Surely every small boy has a right to be shown the giant iron machines that used to haul our trains around the country in the days of steam. One day he may become a Friend of the National Railway Museum like his grandad!

Last year (’07) I was visiting my hometown Sydney, and I found myself quite proudly part of a little experiment by the city of Sydney “Earth Hour”.The concept was simple: have the whole city turn off their lights for 1 single hour to reduce greenhouse emissions.
Well this year Earth Hour has gone GLOBAL!
I like this idea posted on the blog of my friend Natalie. Next weekend we all turn off our lights for an hour in the name of the environment, and find some way to celebrate it with an alternative lighting event. Our own Earth Hour.
Created to take a stand against the greatest threat our planet has ever faced, Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming.
Despite forecasts of bad weather and earlier snow the baptisms went ahead in the open air.

CROWDS watched as the Archbishop of York performed open-air baptisms in the city as part of an Easter Sunday celebration.
In the specially-erected pool outside the church of St Michael-le-Belfry, next to York Minster, Dr John Sentamu welcomed 25 people into the Christian faith in a ceremony.
