In The Cloud

I’ve been talking about it for years – and what’s more other people have talked to me about it.
“The day will come when everything we use will be “out there” not on your hard drive. Data, applications, personal stuff all accessible from anywhere – anywhere with a connection that is.”
The iPhone – recently acquired with 3G connectivity – stores very little data. Ok it’s an iPod too and there’s 16Gb potential for tunes and movies – but the connectivity brings trillions of gigabytes to that small 640 px wide screen. Continue reading

This is the last thought in a long technical article about fitness and cycling. Well worth a read – skip over the technical terms if you don’t know what they mean – there’s a lot in there about attitude to fitness and exercise that applies more widely to human life even if you never mount a bike.

Q for iPhone in York

Q for iPhone in York

I cycled down to the O2 shop in York this morning to see how many were
queuing outside. Here they are. The guy at the front came straight
here from his night out last night, the rest arrived from 5.30am
onwards.
I’m pretty sure the shop only has a dozen phones to sell when it opens
at 8:02 so those at the end of the line will be disappointed.
I went home for breakfast.

I’ve flown the route

Call me a geek if you like, but I imported the route of my sponsored ride through the Yorkshire Dales, planned for next week, into Google Earth. So now I feel I’ve gained a whole new perspective on the roads I’ll be cycling to raise money for Riding Lights.

If you would like to fly with me click on the map below and then export it to a kml file. Double click the saved file and if you have Google Earth installed on your computer you see it traced out on the satellite image. Click play and start to fly. Watch the elevation read out under the map as you traverse the hills – just to gain some idea of where I’ll be feeling the pain. Click here to sponsor me

No cycling today

No cycling today

It’s been a busy work day today so no cycle training. So here’s a
picture taken a couple of days ago on the road (actually just off the road) near Castle Howard.

The new thing is that I am sending this picture AND message from my phone. My brother reminded me that I could do this through Flickr.

So now I’ll be updating both pictures and text from the road during training and on the sponsored ride in July.
